The Commodity Program began in 1981 to help needy persons by distributing to them surplus food products. Currently, the needy family food distribution program serves approximately 2,000 low income families in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Families interested in applying for the needy family food distribution program should contact the distribution sites nearest their home. More information can be obtained by telephoning DHDS/Office of Social Services at (225) 358-4561.
