State Police and TRANSCAER host statewide fIrst responder training

BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana State Police and the national TRANSCAER (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) committee are hosting a three-day training event at the Louisiana State Police Training Academy in Baton Rouge for all first responders Monday, Nov. 15-Wednesday, Nov. 17.

This comprehensive training is being offered at no cost to fire and police departments, emergency medical services, local emergency planning committees and hospital emergency room staff.

This course is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of agency representatives who are directly and indirectly involved with HazMat related events. The training will cover all facets of an emergency response to a hazardous material event including operations and planning, material identification, material control and mitigation, exposure, and medical response.

Trainers will include the Louisiana State Police Emergency Services Unit, TRANSCAER, Dow Chemicals, Schneider Trucking, CF Industries, ES&H Environmental Services, Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Edwards and Cromwell, East Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services, Baton Rouge Fire Department, New Orleans Fire Department, the National Center for Biomedical Radiological Training/LSU, Louisiana One Call (DOTI), CRA, Findlay College, IEM, and more.

TRANSCAER is a voluntary national outreach effort that focuses on assisting communities to prepare for and respond to a possible hazardous material transportation incident. TRANSCAER members consist of volunteer representatives from the chemical manufacturing, transportation, distributor, and emergency response industries, as well as local and state government.
