A team of young baseball players called the Zachary Stingers, also from the Zachary, Baker and St. Francisville areas, finished first place in four recent National Invitation Tournaments.

The Zachary Stingers recently won the River City Show Down, Mother’s Day Classic, Oak Villa Slugfest and Fleur de Lis Fury.

The team was sixth in state out of 53 teams in the league, and the number one seed going into the state tournament at Oak Villa June 18 - 20.

Recently in the Fleur de Lis tournament, the Stingers beat the number one ranked athletes from Terrebonne Parish, 10-5. Hayden Mounce led the team in pitching with nine strikeouts.

Against number-three ranked Mississippi Blues, the Stingers rallied for a 5-4 victory.

In the championship game, the Stingers were victorious 13-7 over the awesome Traction Black.
