ZACHARY - Coach Kirby Loupe knew it would be a difficult challenge last week with games against #1 Scotlandville and the gritty Walker Wildcats. The Broncos were unable to pick up a win last week as they suffered two setbacks in district 5-5A.

First last week, the Broncos took on the #1 ranked team in Class 5A in the Scotlandville Hornets. The Broncos got off to a great start and led 18-17 after the first quarter but after that it would be the Hornets that would do most of the damage.

The Hornets closed the first half with a big 31-12 run to take a 48-30 halftime lead over Zachary. The Broncos got big games from Morris Wright Tremon Mims. Both Wright and Mims lit it up for a team high 23 points.

The Hornets then finished the game in the second half by going on a 45-29 run to win the game 93-59. Zachary then quickly shifted their focus to their next game of the week in a district battle against the Walker Wildcats.

Walker was able to dictate the pace of the game as their slow half court style allowed them to come up with a 44-37 win over the Zachary Broncos. The Broncos led 13-12 after the first quarter but the game then was slowed down to the pace of the Wildcats liking.

The Wildcats closed the half with a 9-2 run to claim a 21-15 halftime lead. The Wildcats then maintained their slow style in the third with a 7-5 advantage over the Broncos. Zachary closed the game by speeding up the pace but it would not be enough.

The Broncos finished the game with a 17-16 run but it would be too little too late as the Wildcats held on for a 44-37 win over Zachary. Carlos Burrell paced the Broncos with 11 points while Morris Wright added nine and Tremon Mims chipped in seven points.

Zachary enters this weeks action with a 2-3 mark in district 5-5A play.
