Officer Chaz Perkins, 27, is one of two new officers to have graduated from the Capitol Area Regional Training Academy and join the Zachary Police Department.

Perkins, originally from Baton Rouge, is a 2000 alumni of Zachary High, and is now married and living in Zachary.

“I always knew I wanted to become a police officer,” said Perkins, whose father was with the BRPD for 25 years.

After joining the Army in ‘02, Perkins went on to serve in Iraq from ‘03-’04. “I definitely had it in my mind that after serving I would become a police officer- that kind of sealed the deal for me,” he said.

Perkins and his fellow classmate, Ofr. Jordan Logan, completed 11 weeks of training at CARTA and graduated July 7.

Perkins had this to say about his new job, “I like being a part of the ZPD. I love the camaraderie and teamwork- it’s a brotherhood.”

He says that the town of Zachary is great because “the people talk to you and accept you.”

When asked if his dad is proud his son followed in his footsteps, Perkins replied, ”He just wants me to be safe.”

Perkin’s hobbies: “I love being a husband to Melissa Perkins.”
