Stroke Education Program- Moving Forward After Stroke is a comprehensive education program for the stroke survivor. Monday, January 12 from 2-3 p.m. at Lane Rehabilitation Center located at 4601 McHugh Road. The primary goal of Moving Forward is to prepare the patient for returning home independently or with assistance from a care provider. Educational materials provided include an overview of stroke, safe and appropriate exercises, home safety and modifications, adaptive equipment, diet recommendations and other important information.Registration required. Zoo and Me Morning- Visit BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo, located at 3601 Thomas Road, on January 13 from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. The theme of the program will be “Animal Magicians.” Held every second Tuesday of the month, this program is designed for children ages 3 to 6 years of age. The program incorporates many exciting activities including a train ride, animal encounters, art projects, “zooper” snacks and many other hands-on projects that you and your child can enjoy together. Weight Reduction Informational Meeting- A free informational program on Weight Reduction Surgery will be held at Lane Regional Medical Center on Thursday, January 15, at 5:30 p.m. Obesity is a serious health concern. If you are overweight or obese, you are more likely to develop serious health problems such as diabetes, heart disease and other health conditions. Weight reduction can help get you off medications for many of these conditions. Free Prenatal Class- Lane Regional Medical Center will offer a free prenatal class Tuesday, January 20, from 7- 9 p.m. in the Staff Development Classroom. “The Pregnancy Workshop” is an overview of what to expect for the soon-to-be mom. Topics covered during the class include: Keeping Healthy During Pregnancy, The Big Day: Labor & Delivery, and Caring for Yourself and Your New Baby. Registration is required. Blood Drive- United Blood Services will hold a blood drive at Lane Regional Medical Center Friday, January 23, from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The blood drive is open to the public and registration is not required.

Park Clean Up Day- At the Port Hudson State Historic Site in Zachary on Saturday, January 24 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., individuals interested in helping the Port Hudson SHS with special maintenance projects are invited to come out for this annual clean-up day. Special attention is paid to cleaning off brush from the earthworks and clearing debris from the moats of the earthworks.
