Dear Editor,
Being away from home at Christmas time is never easy, but serving in the American military, thousands of miles from family and home, can be especially difficult during the holiday season.
The City of Ville Platte is collaborating with the American Red Cross to send Christmas cards to our country’s troops serving around the world - from Iraq and Afghanistan to Germany, Korea and all American military installations in between.
We urge all citizens, adults and children alike, to write a note of Christmas greetings and thanks inside a card. Place the card inside an envelope, leaving the envelope unaddressed and unsealed. The drop off deadline is Friday, December 5. The cards will be collected and delivered to the Acadiana Chapter of the Red Cross, which will organize delivery. The Pitney Bowes Corporation will sponsor the postage costs.
Cards may be dropped into collection boxes at the following locations: Ville Platte City Hall, Chamber of Commerce, Evangeline Parish Library, Ville Platte Gazette, KVPI Radio, Evangeline Parish Court House, Citizens Bank, Evangeline Bank, Guaranty Bank, Hancock Bank and the Wal-Mart Service Desk. The city extends special thanks to these businesses and agencies for their generous support of this project.
Ville Platte has always been known for its warm and caring spirit. Mayor Jeanmard and all city council members encourage everyone to help spread Christmas cheer by writing a note to a service man or woman. A moment of your time will mean a lot to the solider, sailor, marine, airman or coast guardsman who receives your card!
Sincerely,
Sharon Fontenot
