KROTZ SPRINGS – Services for decorated World War II veteran and long-time alderman Tony Collette will be Saturday. He died July 24 at age 89.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the European Theater in World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge, and held the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a Krotz Springs alderman for 48 years.
Survivors include a daughter.
Arrangements are by Lafond-Ardoin.
Banker, civic leader
VIDALIA – Services for banker and civic leader Clifton Merritt will be Thursday. He died July 23 at age 54.
He was president and CEO of Delta Bank in Vidalia and former president of Premier Bank in Ruston. He was past president of the Natchez, Miss. Chamber of Commerce and the Vidalia Chamber and chairman of the United Way. He was active in a number of professional organizations.
Survivors include wife Debra and two daughters.
Arrangements are by Young’s.
Teacher, administrator
ALEXANDRIA – Services for teacher and education administrator Junice Leckrone will be Friday. She died July 25 at age 91.
She was a classroom teacher in Avoyelles Parish for four years and a teacher, supervisor and Director of Elementary Education in Rapides Parish for 27 years. She was former president of the Louisiana Teacher Association and the Louisiana School Supervisor Association.

Westinghouse dealer, civic leader
SHREVEPORT – Services for retired businessman, banker and civic leader Harold Wright will be Saturday. He died July 24 at age 105.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was regional distributor of Westinghouse products and owned six retail stores here and in Monroe and Jackson, Miss. He was active in board management of Shreveport Bank and Trust. He served on the Shreveport Capital Improvements Committee and was former chairman of the Doctors’ Hospital board.
Insurance exec, civic leader
COVINGTON – Services will be Saturday for banker and civic leader Robert Thomas, Sr. He died July 25 at age 88.
He was a World War II veteran of the Pacific Theater. He was CEO of R.M. Thomas and Co. Insurance and chairman of the board of Homeseekers Savings and Loan and involved in numerous civic, church and social outreach organizations.
Survivors include his wife Elaine and three children.
Music professor
THIBODEAUX – Arrangements are pending for long-time music professor Dr. Wildon Shinn, Jr. He died July 24 at age 78.
He was music director at Hanson Memorial in Franklin before joining the Nicholls State faculty. Along with instrumental teaching, he also taught music history and literature and the physics of sound for 30 years. He performed on the clarinet, saxophone and flute at many recitals and concerts.
Survivors include his wife Claire.
