Alena Louise Downs and Jason Mahalas Mitchell both of Madison, Ala., were married Saturday, May 19, in a 5 p.m. ceremony at the Bluff Park United Methodist Church in Hoover, Ala.

Pastor Reid Crotty officiated. The pipe organ, which is the largest in the Birmingham area, was played by organist Jamie Davis.

The bride is the daughter of Rusty and Kitty Wilson Downs of Hoover, Ala. Alena is the granddaughter of Ebba Day Wilson and the late James I. “Pete” Wilson of the Staggerin' W Ranch in Olive Branch, La., and the late Charles Ray “Charlie” Stitt of Baton Rouge.

She is the great-granddaughter of the late, Sidney Wilton Day and Thyra Norder Day of Hilltop Acres in Olive Branch, Jack Downs of Pineville and Alfred and Nancy R. Downs of Vick, La.

Alena is an honor graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham and is employed as a marketing representative with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.

The bridegroom is the son of Nick and Lyn Mitchell of Mobile, Ala. Jason is the grandson of Hercules and Johnnie Mae Mitchell and Spurgeon and Charlie Gray.

Jason is an honor graduate of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and is employed as an engineer with NASA in Huntsville, Ala.

The bride was attended by her maids of honor, sisters Ingrid Downs and Thyra Downs, both of Mountain Brook, Ala. Bridesmaids included Gloria Cowan, Nealy Vardaman and Heather Beard.

A special reading was performed by Alena’s Alpha Xi Delta Sorority Sister, Michelle Sadley Lawley.

The bridegroom was attended by his best man, brother Shaun Mitchell. Groomsmen included Kevin Mitchell, Calen Mitchell, Jeremy Dail and Doug Vanata.

Ushers were Jason Finley, Phil Hendrix and Patrick Henry.

The bride and groom left the ceremony in a 1963 Vintage Rolls Royce bound for the reception, which was held in Pelham, Ala.

Following the honeymoon to the Great Exuma, Bahamas, the couple will reside in Madison, Ala.

what a beautiful wedding/reception it was. I still cannot believe our sweet little girl is now grown up and married,

Especially happy to know that you two are made for each other, And we are so thrilled we were able to give you the wedding of your dreams, You both deserved it. Much love to you both and remember its always a give and take and stuff happens, but sticking it because of your commitment in front of God and those witneses will help you to remember "why" you married each other.
