Artist Dorothy Furlong-Gardner is one of five encaustic print artists who will display their work at the Glassell Gallery in the Shaw Center for the Arts
at LSU March 10-April 6. Shown is her piece, House in the Clouds, Encaustic Print.
“The show is comprised of 13 pieces, including the four "1699" paintings, originally commissioned by Mr. Micah Nickens, owner and operator of Gaudet Brothers. These four principal works are large, landscape- oriented abstractions, oil on canvas. Seven related works, oil on panel, and two additional studies complete the exhibition. All of the paintings draw explicitly on the history of the medium, from Lascaux to the Netherlands, Florence to now, and geographically reference their specific origin in Baton Rouge. Osborne holds an MFA in painting and drawing, and an MA in philosophy. He teaches courses in art theory and creativity in the LSU Honors College.
"On and Off the Wall: Encaustic Printmaking Exhibition" will be on display March 10 - April 6 at the Glassell Gallery. Curated by Kathleen Lemoine, the exhibit will feature the works of participating artists David A. Clark (California), Dorothy Furlong Gardner (Louisiana), Kathleen Lemoine (Louisiana), Paula Roland (New Mexico), Laura Moriarity (New York) and Toby Sisson (Massachusetts).
A reception will be held March 24, 2012, from 6-8pm.
Encaustic prints are made on a heated plate with pigmented wax, an experimental process that is not limited to two dimensional works in this exhibition.
