Olivia Gill McGlynn, 13, right, of Baton Rouge, took her first deer, a spike, on Sunday, Feb. 12, while hunting with her grandmother, Sandi "NiNi" Smith, above, of Weyanoke in West Feliciana Parish.

McGlynn attends University HIgh School, and although she is new to the sport of hunting, she says she loves it. The seventh-grader shot at and missed a doe on Saturday, Feb. 11, but was determined not to miss this spike on Sunday.

The spike weighed 140 lbs. and was taken with a 243 rifle. Hunting is a sport loved by the Gill-McGlynn-Smith clan, which includes her big sister Riley and little brother Aidan McGlynn. Congratulations, Olivia, on your first deer!
