Billy, an avid runner for many years, ran in the 2009 New York City marathon and recently in the Louisiana marathon held in Baton Rouge in January.
Erin is new to the sport, and she says she took up running to spend more time with her husband. Together, they have four children.
"I fell in love with the sport," said Erin. I love getting out there and having some time to myself. I like setting goals for myself. When I first started about seven months ago, I thought, 'No way can I run a mile...now, I'm thinking yeah, I could run a marathon.'"
Like-minded individuals once traveled to Baton Rouge for what Erin says are "awesome running clubs." Now, however, with the launch of the Zachary RunnerZ Club, runners, joggers and walkers of all fitness levels are invited to run with Erin, Billy and whoever shows up to run twice weekly around Zachary.
"We try to run one evening during the week and every Saturday morning for short or long group runs in areas such as Zachary Youth Park, 39th Street, Copper Mill and Hwy. 964 on the sidewalk," Erin said. "I understand people are busy, so hopefully we've made it convenient for anyone wishing to join fellow runners for a little fun and who enjoy living a healthy lifestyle. All are welcome!"
"There is no cost to run with the club, just bring your shoes and some water," said Erin. "This is not an official race, and everyone runs at their own pace. We're a laid back group who just want to have fun."
Eventually, Erin said she'd like to host a 5K event for some type of fundraiser. Several of the Zachary RunnerZ will be participating in the "All About the Heart 5K Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the 2nd Saturday Community Market.
