The Regional Arts Council of Zachary presents Blending of the Arts, an introductory and informative event on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Zachary 2nd Saturday Community Market between 9 a.m. and noon. The Blending of the Arts program will feature performances and displays by local artists in varying mediums, the announcement of the winner of RACZ’s logo contest as well as the unveiling of the new official logo for the organization. The kick-off for the council’s membership drive will also begin.

Additionally, board chairperson Joy Petty and other members of the RACZ board will be present to discuss all aspects of this new and exciting endeavor plus answer any questions.

The arts council recently held a contest open to all citizens within the community to find a logo to represent the organization. Close to 50 entries were received and were judged by local artists. The winning logo will be unveiled the morning of Nov. 12, and the winner will be presented with a $200 check at the Blending of the Arts program.

The Regional Arts Council of Zachary will also kick off its official membership drive. Benefits of membership include a monthly newsletter informing members of upcoming events in the community and surrounding areas, as well as discounts to local events, activities and much more.

Membership dues vary from $25 per year for an individual to $100 per year for corporations. For additional information regarding membership or for an application, please contact Margaret Harmon at margaretharmon62@yahoo.com.

The Blending of the Arts will include performances by the ZHS Bronco Beat Chorus led by award-winning director, Jason Bowers, Northwestern Middle School Drama students will perform excerpts from Grease, directed by Paula Swilley, and a book-signing by published author Anne Butler, as well as a visual art display from several local artists.

The Regional Arts Council of Zachary is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and enliven the community through the arts by enhancing and preserving the cultural and economic health of the region. It serves and acts as a collective voice for the arts in Zachary and has plans for numerous future events.

The concept of an organization benefiting and promoting the arts in the greater Zachary area was initiated by the Quality of Life division of the Zachary Chamber of Commerce. Efforts were made to have all backgrounds of the community represented, and after several meetings the group of representatives became the steering committee and was charged with the task of forming the non-profit organization, now officially named the Regional Arts Council of Zachary. RACZ also has a fully functioning board.

If you or someone you know is interested in getting involved in the arts council, please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 654-6777 or Joy Petty by e-mailing joypetty@cox.net.
