Mashburn~Grooms unite in matrimony

Claire Lucile Mashburn and Lieutenant Peter Hansel Grooms were united in marriage in a candlelight ceremony at Plains Presbyterian Church in Zachary, Louisiana, on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011. The Reverend Ronald Gregory Grooms and the Reverend Richard Woodson Markert officiated the double ring ceremony.

Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Willis Franklin Mashburn of Zachary, and parents of the groom are the Reverend and Mrs. Ronald Gregory Grooms of Austin, Texas.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown by Monique Lhuillier of ivory re-embroidered Alencon lace over honey silk satin. Her gown featured a strapless sweetheart neckline closed in the back with lace covered buttons. She wore a satin ribbon belt encrusted in the center front with a bouquet of pearls, crystals, and sequins.

The full A-line lace skirt and chapel train were edged in scalloped Alencon lace. She wore her mother’s cathedral length veil of Brussels lace and wore a strand of pearls belonging to her maternal grandmother and pearls and diamond earrings, a gift from the groom. She carried a bouquet of bridal blush roses.

Attending the bride as her matrons of honor were Marianna Harpole Hilbun, cousin of the bride; and Meredith White Lampton, sister-in-law of the bride. Bridesmaids were Meredith Scroggs Cooper, Emily Abigail Grooms, sister of the groom; Mary Catherine Grooms, sister of the groom; Beth Higginbotham Hembree, Paola Castillo Mashburn, sister-in-law of the bride; Kristen Elaine Puster, Eryn Wax Unglesby, and Christyn Spitzfaden Waldrop.

The attendants wore praline taffeta floor length dresses with shirred strapless necklines. Each attendant wore a strand of ivory and pink freshwater pearls and matching earrings, a gift from the bride

Sara Lucille Lampton, niece of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a sleeveless ivory organza dress with a taffeta sash.

The mother of the bride wore a gown of teal silk taffeta with a beaded bodice. The mother of the groom wore a taffeta gown in mink with a portrait collar.

Ian Gregory Grooms served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Lieutenant David Zachary Bennett, Lieutenant Brandon Craig Carter, Lieutenant Matthew Ryan Fair, William Dunnica Lampton, brother of the bride; Willis Shea Mashburn, brother of the bride; Lieutenant Zachary Tyson McClelland, Lieutenant Thomas Lee Powell, Lieutenant Nathan David Rings and Mark Thomas Thornton.

Ushers were Daniel Andrew Davis, Jonathan Edward Fletcher and Richard Daniel Hembree.

Music for the ceremony was provided by Dan Talbot, organist; Linda Cotter, flutist; Jesse Cook, trumpeter; and William Lampton, timpanist.

Scripture readers were Melanie Marie Snyder and Dorea Lynne Cook. Program attendants were Abigail Rose Albritton, Mary Elizabeth Day, Candace Marie Franklin and Ann Douglass Mashburn, cousin of the bride.

Lindsey Castle Mashburn, cousin of the bride, served as the bride’s proxy. Wedding directors were Luanne Mashburn, aunt of the bride, and Melinda White.

A reception followed the wedding ceremony at Lod Cook Alumni Center on the campus of Louisiana State University. Guests danced to the music of Phat Hat and enjoyed a buffet supper and a bride’s cake and groom’s cake.

On the eve of the wedding, Reverend and Mrs. Grooms hosted a rehearsal dinner at Drusilla Seafood Restaurant in Baton Rouge. Lieutenant Grooms presented his attendants with gifts at the close of the dinner.

A bridal luncheon was held at Mansur’s on the Boulevard in Baton Rouge on Dec. 29 and was hosted by Mrs. Delray Babson, Mrs. Hardee Brian, Mrs. Albert Mills III, Mrs. Dan Moller, Mrs. Wayne Robertson, and Mrs. Dan Semones.

The bride presented her attendants with gifts at this time.

The bride will resume her studies at the University of Texas in Austin where she will receive a master’s degree in flute performance in May 2012.

Lieutenant Grooms will complete pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas in March 2012.

Prior to the Dec. 30 wedding, Miss Mashburn and Lieutenant Grooms were honored at parties which included a brunch hosted by Elizabeth Stewart, great-aunt of the bride, in New Orleans on December 27. On December 15, Meredith Lampton and Meredith Cooper hosted a lingerie shower in the bride’s honor at The Melting Pot.

A shower was held in Austin on December 2 hosted by Mrs. James Coweden, Mrs. Burwell McClendon, and Mrs. Wayne Tobleman in the Tobleman home. A miscellaneous shower was hosted by the Women in the Church at Plains Presbyterian on September 3.

An engagement party was held in the couple’s honor on July 3 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mac White in Zachary with other host and hostesses including Mr. and Mrs. John Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Franklin, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Harpole, Mr. and Mrs. David Mills, Dr. and Mrs. Mart Morris, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Snyder.
