Cortana Mall will partner with former LSU basketball star Glen “Big Baby” Davis on Saturday, July 28, for an event aimed at sharing Davis’s love of reading with local children. Mall officials are excited to help students get ready for a great school year; East Baton Rouge Parish back-to-school is Aug. 8.

A one-time LSU standout turned power forward/center for the NBA’s Orlando Magic, Davis is also the founder of the nonprofit Glen Big Baby Davis Foundation.

The annual Booking It With Baby event, in partnership with the East Baton Rouge Parish Library, furthers the Foundation’s efforts to promote literacy and athletic activity as alternatives to problem behaviors for inner city youth.

Davis will be at Cortana Mall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., to sign copies of his kids’ book, “Basketball with Big Baby” and to host a free skills demonstration across from Hibbett Sports, just inside Entrance 2 (by Virginia College).

“The Booking It events are a great way to encourage kids to read by bringing books to them,” explained Davis. “I’m looking forward to encouraging kids that reading is cool and can be fun!”

“Cortana Mall is always proud to contribute to a stronger community here in the Baton Rouge area,” added Percy Singleton, Cortana Mall general manager. “’Booking It With Baby’ is a great opportunity for us to support local students as they prepare for a successful school year.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Cortana Mall Customer Service at 225-927-6747.
