Long-time legislator

ALEXANDRIA – Services are pending for 16-year legislator Israel “Bo” Curtis. He died Feb. 16 at age 70.

Curtis served 16 years in the Louisiana House and was a 12-year member of the Rapides Parish School Board. He was the first black legislator from Alexandria since Reconstruction.

He was a long-time teacher and football coach at Peabody High School.

Curtis was a captain in the Rapides Sheriff’s Auxiliary and helped organize the Magnolia Peac Officers Association.

Arrangements are under direction of Gonzaque-Williams.

Former principal

SHREVEPORT – Services for former principal and administrator Walter Martin will be Saturday. He died Feb. 10 at age 99.

He was principal of Princeton High in Bossier Parish before become a central office administrator. He was a former winner of the Educator of the Year award and member of the Metropolitan Planning Commission.

Survivors include two sons.

AE teacher of year

SHREVEPORT _ Services for teacher of the year Carolyn Kalmbach will be Friday. She died Feb. 14 at age 69.

She was the Adult Education Teacher of the Year and held multiple degrees in her field.

Survivors include a son and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Osborn.
