LAFAYETTE – Services for real estate company owner Julius Stagg, III will be Tuesday. He died Feb. 4 at age 69.

He was owner of Stagg Real Estate and past president of the Southwest Mardi Gras Association.

Survivors include his wife Phern and two sons.

Candy company exec

RAYNE – Services for businessman and civic leader Ronald Brignac, Sr. will be Tuesday. He died Feb. 3 at age 81.

He was owner of Carson’s Candy Co., which evolved into Slush Puppie of Southwest Louisiana and Golden Triangle Slush Puppie of Texas. He also owned Fireworks Warehouse.

Survivors include his wife Denise, a son and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Gossen.

Long-time priest

PLAQUEMINE – Services for long-time priest the Rev. Jerome Dugas will be Wednesday. He died Feb. 4 at age 76.

He served churches in Donaldsonville, White Castle, Baton Rouge, St. Mary Parish, New Roads, Morganza and Innis before 19 years at St. Clement of Rome in Plaquemine. He was also a newspaper columnist.

Survivors include three sisters.

Arrangements are by Wilbert.

Electrical engineering prof

BATON ROUGE – Services for retired professor emeritus of electrical engineering at LSU Dr. Eugene Timms will be Monday. He died Feb. 2.

He was also past chairman of the Presbyterian Pan-American School in Kingsville, Texas.

Survivors include his wife Jeanne, a son and two daughters.

Long-time physician

FERRIDAY – Services for long-time physician Dr. Eugene Vogt, Jr. will be Tuesday. He died Feb. 4 at age 88.

He began practice in Ferriday in 1948 with Drs. Ratcliff and Coleman. He served in the Navy, Marines and Air Force during the Korean War. He was one of the first to practice at Riverland Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie and six sons.

Arrangements are by Comer.

English professor

BATON ROUGE – Services will be Monday for professor emeritus in English at Southern University Thelma Carver. She died Jan. 28 at age 91.

She was on the Southern faculty for 30 years and prior to that taught at some of the nation's premier historically black universities.

She was active in a number of cultural and civic organizations, including Pubic Broadcasting System.

Arrangements are by Hall's.

Professor of theatre

BATON ROUGE – Services for LSU director and acting teacher John Dennis will be Feb. 18. He died Jan. 27 at age 74.

He joined LSU in 1980 and produced a host of performances there. He received directing honors at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. and was the first Gresdna A. Doty Professor of Theatre at LSU.
