The 3.1 mile course began at 8 a.m. in downtown Zachary at the start of the open-air community market, despite cold and cloudy weather.
The 5K included about 60 registered runners from Zachary, Baton Rouge and surrounding communities, as well as from Sunset, La., and as far away as Texas.
Men, women, children and couples participated in the event, and door prizes were given out by area businesses to runners whose names were entered into the prize drawings.
"All About the Heart" t-shirts were also sold at the event, and the February community market, held in conjunction with the Zachary Farmer's Market was a huge success.
The top three runners in the 2nd Saturday Community Market's "All About the Heart" 5k Fun Run were:
Carlos Serna, 25, of Alamo, Texas, who finished in first place with a time of 16:05. Serna said he has been running for four years and works at Placid Refinery in Baton Rouge.
Finishing in second place, was Georges Espinosa, 33, of Baton Rouge, who ran the 5K with a time of 19:39.
The third-place runner, with a time of 20:30, is Chris Flanders, 44, of Zachary.
Conratulations, to the top three runners and thanks to all the runners, joggers and walkers who participated in the event.
