The American Cancer Society held its third Annual Mardi Gras Gala and Silent Auction on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Lyceum Ballroom in downtown Baton Rouge.

“The Royal Ball” was a great success, and lots of fun was had by all. This year’s King was the honorable Lonny Myles. Myles is Zachary's City Court Judge and part owner of Myles, Cook and Day Law Firm.

Myles's wife, Judy, is a breast cancer survivor who is an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

This year’s Queen was Stephanie “Beetle” Fisher. She is active in the Zachary community and co-owns Pretty Woman Boutique with her daughter, Christy Anderson. Fisher is also a stylist with StyleMasters Salon.

Fisher’s son, Brad, is a cancer survivor as well, and she has been an active volunteer for the ACS Relay for Life event for many years.

There were over 300 people who attended the Gala, twice the amount that attended last year. The silent auction was a huge success and overall, about $12,000 was raised.

Many thanks to the ACS Royal Ball committee - the members worked so hard to make this annual fundraising event a complete success. Also, a huge thanks to all the sponsors of the event - without you the night would not have been possible.

All money raised at the "Royal Ball" goes toward the ACS Relay for Life fundraising goal, which benefits the American Cancer Society. Funds are used to help fight cancer, cure cancer and fund research.

The annual ACS Relay for Life event will be held Friday, April 20, at BREC's Zachary Community Park, 20055 Old Scenic Highway.

Please come out and show your support for the American Cancer Society and the Zachary community.
