Local tax preparer accused of theft, computer fraud
A Zachary resident was arrested last week for stealing nearly $80,000 from the state by filing false tax returns.
Keina Bell Nixon, 33, 6419 Woodside Dr., Zachary, is a tax preparer who worked at Smart Tax, located at 3325 Groom Rd. in Baker.
While working at Smart Tax, Nixon allegedly filed false business returns under the names of at least eight customers, maybe more, but none of whom own businesses, an affidavit said.
Nixon filed false returns showing business losses, resulting in higher refunds for the clients, the arrest warrant states.
Nixon was booked Nov. 20 on counts of theft, filing or maintaining false public records, computer fraud and criminal penalty for tax evasion.
