The Zachary City Council approved several requests for home occupational permits at the Tuesday, March 9 meeting.
Joy Petty, sole proprietor of Joie Petite Designs, was granted a waiver to conduct her business matters from her home on Lake Pointe Drive.
The primary function of her company, she says, would be the composition of commissioned art to be sold, as well as beginner art classes based around a casual social platform of group instruction.
"The whole purpose is to bring arts more into the community," said Petty.

Members of the Zachary City Council will host a town hall meeting on Saturday, March 27, from 10 a.m. - noon at the Zachary Branch Library. The meeting is to discuss the proposed sewer and waste water system in Zachary. The community is invited to attend. INVESTIGATION CONTINUES ON MURDER VICTIM IN ZACHARY

Zachary Police are still investigating the brutal murder of a man whose body was found Monday morning on McHugh Road.
The victim, a black male in his late 30s or early 40s, was shot in the back of the head, and police believe he is a local man with a history of drug and theft related offenses, said Zachary Police Chief John Herty.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's office was set to do an autopsy this morning but the medical examiner was called away to court, postponing the autopsy until Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., said Herty.

Baker High School was looking to continue a historic ride as its Girls Basketball team made it to the LHSAA Sweet 16 for the first time; and with a win over Madison in the Class 3A Semi-finals, Baker was one win away from capturing their first state title in the sport as well.
The season, with so much excitement, so much promise and so many big wins and dynamic plays, did not end the way Coach Michael Stephens and his team wanted it to as Baker lost to Carroll 70-58.

Rotarians receive visit from Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Last Thursday, the Zachary Rotary Club heard from Todd Harris, a Senior Special Agent with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement unit, also known as ICE.
ICE is the largest investigative body for Homeland Security, explained Harris.
Formed in 2003 as part of the federal government's response to the 9/11 attacks, ICE's mission is to protect the security of the American people and homeland by vigilantly enforcing the nation's immigration and customs laws.

ZACHARY POLICE INVESTIGATE MURDER

Body found along McHugh Road

Zachary Police are investigating the murder of a man found along the gravel section of McHugh Road early this morning in Zachary.
Workers from East Baton Rouge Department of Public Works were preparing to grade a portion of McHugh Road when they discovered the body and immediately contacted their supervisor who then notified Zachary Police.
"We received the call at approximately 7 a.m. this morning," said Zachary Police Chief John Herty. "This is the first time, in my administration, that officers have found a body on the side of the road."
