Rogers

Ernest Rogers, a correctional officer with Dixon Correctional Institute and resident of St. Francisville, died at 1:21 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 58, born at New Orleans Charity Hospital. Visitation was held at Rosedown Baptist Church, St. Francisville, Friday, Jan. 8, with religious service at Afton Villa Baptist Church, St. Francisville, Saturday, Jan. 9, conducted by the Rev. Lafayette Veal Jr. Interment in Rosedown Cemetery. He is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra Brooks, Valerie Brooks and Jackie Jones and husband Andre, all of St. Francisville, and Beverly Goy and husband Moses, of Maywood, Ill.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Arnell Rogers, and Shirley Duncan and husband Edward, all of St. Francisville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William Sr. and wife Bernadine Rogers, and John Jr. and wife Mary Rogers, all of St. Francisville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Rogers; his parents, John Rogers Sr. and Anna Parlor Rogers; one granddaughter, Ruby Goy; and one grandson, Terrence Jermaine Brooks. He was a 1969 graduate of J.S. Dawson High School and 1974 graduate of Southern University.
