A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and life-long caregiver to all, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at home. She was a native and life-long resident of West Feliciana Parish. She was born on February 23, 1919 to Mable and Howard Thoms. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church. Mrs. Morris drove a bus for West Feliciana Parish Schools for 28 years, and was a receptionist for Attorney Leon Picou.
Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, 5 p.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, and then on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. until services at 10 a.m., conducted by Dr. Mack Stewart. Interment will be at Shaw Family Cemetery in St. Francisville.
Survived by her daughters: Carolyn Ann Morris, Zachary; Lydia Elam and husband Roy, and Linda Noland Ritchie and husband Randy, all of St. Francisville; ten grandchildren Deborah and Fred Bryant, Jr., St. Francisville; Garnet and Karan Walker, Greensburg; Wayne and Melinda Downs, Zachary; Timothy Elam, Christy and Lee Strickland, St. Francisville; Jimbo and Amy Noland, Zachary; Stacy Ritchie, North Carolina; Suzie and Kenny Amy, Opelousas; Randi K. and Perry Patin, St. Francisville; Kelli and Tony Templet, St. Amant. She had 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lydia T. Carpenter, Jackson.
Preceded in death by her parents, Mable and Howard Thoms; husband of 41 years, Garnet Grady Morris; daughter Ruby Jane Walker Gayle; granddaughter, Jennifer Noland; great-granddaughter Mary Downs; and son-in-law James Noland; siblings Lucille T. Broadway, Louis O. Thoms, Catherine T. Reams, Grady Thoms, and Mable Baker.
Pallbearers will be Clay and Gill Bryant, Wayne and Ethan Downs, Timothy Elam, Jimbo Noland, Joshua Strickland, and Garnet Walker. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Bryant, Sr., Fred Bryant, Jr., Roy Elam, Robert C. “Sonny” Gayle, Randy Ritchie, and Lee Strickland.
A special thanks to Lane Regional Medical Center, Hospice Care Services of Louisiana, Pearleanna McKinsey, and Emma Dunn for the tender loving care given our mother and grandmother.
