On June 21, 40 Firefighters from Zachary, Baker, Pride, Chaneyville, Slaughter, and Clinton sat together in a classroom dedicated to spend time earning their certifications in Fire Fighter I and II. After spending three months learning Hazardous Materials, they finally were able to start the Fire Fighter I and II course. Together, these men and women spent approximately one year studying three nights a week. On May 30, 16 of these men and women met to perform their practical skill assessments so that they may take their certification tests. The training was held at the Fire Protection District #1 of West Feliciana Parish Headquarters in St. Francisville.
Zachary Fire Department had six attendees; Baker Fire Department had two; Chaneyville Fire Department had five; Pride Fire Department had three; Clinton Fire Department had one; and Slaughter Fire Department had one.
Some firefighters are members of more than one department. Based on the practice tests, all are expected to pass with flying colors.
