ZACHARY - Coach April Brown will be the first to tell you that she does not believe in moral victories but she will also tell you that her team got a lot better last week. The Lady Broncos were hoping to come up with a 2-0 mark a week ago but went 1-1.
Zachary blew out Scotlandville to start the week and then took 6th ranked Walker to overtime but lost that game 59-58. The Lady Broncos are still in the thick of the district 5-5A race as they enter this weeks schedule with a 4-3 mark in league play.
In their first game of the week the Lady Broncos dominated the Lady Hornets with a big 68-42 win over Scotlandville. The game was never in question as Zachary started the game with a 18-10 run in the first quarter and then they closed the first half with a 22-13 run to take a commanding 40-23 lead over the Lady Hornets.
Bria Reed led all scorers with 23 points while Khloe Mims had 17 points and Brianna Cotton added 14 for Zachary. With a big lead at the half Zachary then closed the game by going on a 28-19 run to win the game handily 68-42.
The win over the Lady Hornets then set up a huge showdown with the 6th ranked team in Class 5A in district foe Walker. The Lady Wildcats sported a 5-1 league mark. Zachary looked to be in control of the game in the final quarter but the Lady Wildcats closed the game with a big 19-9 run in the fourth to send the game into overtime.
The Lady Broncos built a 30-19 halftime lead and then led 43-33 going into the fourth quarter. But credit Walker as they did not quit as they forced overtime and then outscored the Lady Broncos 7-6 in the extra period to steal a 59-58 overtime win away from the Lady Broncos.
